MISSION STATEMENT
All pupils do Art & Design at Key Stage 3 and can choose it as an examination subject at Key Stage 4 and into A-Level. Pupils are encouraged to develop thinking skills, creativity, flexibility, visual awareness and presentation skills in a wide range of two and three dimensional materials, techniques and processes.
KEY STAGE 3 COURSE OUTLINE
Pupils take 6-week modules in Art & Design which investigate the visual language of artists and art movements and traditions in various cultures and ethnic groups. They apply this knowledge to their own work in producing artifacts in two and three dimensions.
GCSE / A LEVEL COURSE OUTLINE
 |
 |
Pupils may choose double award applied GCSE which is vocationally-orientated and explores how Art & Design is applied in the professions and industry. Christian Brothers is still one of the very few schools offering this innovative qualification, having piloted it in 1996. Pupils may choose standard GCSE, producing three major assignments in a range of fine and graphic art techniques. Usually most pupils choose ceramics and drawing and painting for their coursework assignments and graphic illustration for their examination assignment.
A-Level Art at CBS

 |
For A Level, pupils are expected to develop a high level of engagement and personal research into artistic movements, processes, techniques and methods which they then incorporate into their work. The high quality of work produced by A Level pupils gives them the qualifications and portfolio to pursue a career involving Art & Design. For example, architecture, or to apply to art college to study fine or applied arts, with courses including ceramics, textiles, digital imagery, fashion, graphics, interior design and jewellery.
