DEPARTMENT HEAD: Ms Katrena McArdle

STAFF MEMBERS:

MISSION STATEMENT
Drama has an important role to play in the personal development of our students. The skills and qualities developed by students in drama, such as teamwork, creativity, leadership and risk taking are assets in all subjects and areas of life. Drama stimulates the imagination and allows students to explore issues and experiences in a safe environment.
Drama promotes self-esteem and provides all students with a sense of achievement regardless of academic ability. It is about social skills, communication skills and having fun - we learn by doing.

KEY STAGE 3 COURSE OUTLINE

Production of "Joseph"
Students in Years 8, 9 and 10 participate in a structured and imaginative Drama course in which they are encouraged to achieve high standards in the creation, performance and evaluation of a variety of dramatic activities. Students learn a range of skills to enable them to develop and express their ideas in making group dramas. They will also be involved in the important activity of communicating to an audience by performing scripted plays and pieces that they created themselves. Students will be taught how to evaluate their work and will be encouraged to make thoughtful judgments in responding to dramatic presentation.
Homework will not be set on a regular basis, but from time to time such activities as preparation of tasks, reading, learning lines, watching a play on television or collecting material to bring to the next lesson may be required.

THEATRE VISITS
Theatre visits to the Grand opera House. The Lyric Theatre and the Old Arts Museum are regularly arranged each term for Years 8, 9 and 10.
