MISSION STATEMENT Mathematics has a unique place in human development. It provides a way of viewing and making sense of the world in which we live. It is the intention of the Mathematics Dept to create a vibrant and Positive attitude towards mathematics. It is vital that we develop children's appreciation of a skill for life Through practical application and visualisation of mathematics.
KEY STAGE 3 COURSE OUTLINE
Pupils in years 8-10 follow a variety of topics set into 2 ability levels which are in line with NI Curriculum and which prepare pupils for Key Stage 3 exams at the end of year 10.
YEAR 8 COURSE OUTLINE Year 8 follow the department scheme drawn up in accordance with NI cirriculum.
YEAR 9 COURSE OUTLINE Year 9 begin working towards KS3 exams, using Maths schemes drawn up in accordance with NI curriculum.
YEAR 10 COURSE OUTLINE Year 10 work focuses on preparing the pupils for KS3 external examinations, via departmental schemes.
YEAR 11 COURSE OUTLINE
Year 11 pupils sit 1 or 2 modules of their GCSE and complete one of the pieces of coursework required. Schemes are drawn up in line with AQA modular GCSE.
YEAR 12 COURSE OUTLINE Year 12 pupils sit 1 or 2 module exams of their GCSE and complete a final piece of coursework . Schemes are drawn up in line with AQA modular GCSE.
GCSE COURSE OUTLINE Pupils in years 11 and 12 follow the AQA modular maths GCSE course. This involves sitting 3 written exams over 2 years and completing 2 pieces of coursework. Pupils in year 13 can repeat their GCSE by sitting the AQA Linear GCSE.
EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES We regularly hold numeracy competitions and recently held a Maths Who Wants To Be A Millionaire competition which raised £150 for the NSPCC.
