Mission Statement
Mathematics has a unique place in human development. It provides a way of viewing and making sense of the world in which we live. It is the intention of the Mathematics Dept to create a vibrant and positive attitude towards mathematics. It is vital that we develop children's appreciation of a skill for life through practical application and visualisation of mathematics.

Unit 1: Number – Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Unit 2: Handling Data – Probability
Unit 3: Algebra
Unit 4: Shape, Space and Measures – Volume, Plans and Elevations
Unit 5: Shape, Space and Measures – Angles
Year 10 Course Outline
Unit 1: Number – Fractions, Decimals and Percentages
Unit 2: Number and Algebra – Ratio, Speed/Distance/Time and Mass/Density/Volume
Unit 3: Number and Algebra – Pythagoras’ Theorem
Unit 4: Shape, Space and Measures – Symmetry and Transformations
Unit 5: Handling Data - Averages
Year 11 and Year 12 Course Outline
From September 2010, Year 11 pupils will be following the AQA New Specification for Mathematics B, modular. It consists of 3 units:
Unit 1: Statistics and Number which accounts for 26.7% of GCSE
Unit 2: Number and algebra which accounts for 33.3% of GCSE
Both of these will be delivered in Year 11 with the opportunity for resits in Year 12
Unit 3: Geometry and Algebra which accounts for 40% of GCSE
This will be delivered in Year 12
This academic year, 2010/2011, will see Year 12 pupils complete the older Mathematics B, modular specification.
It also consists of 3 modules:
Module 1: Statistics which accounts for 18% of GCSE
Module 3: Number which accounts for 27% of GCSE
Module 5: Algebra which accounts for 55% of GCSE
